A civilian pharmacist at Fort Leonard Wood, Robert E. Sapp, has been sentenced to 12 years and seven months in federal prison without parole for attempting to murder his supervisor with a knife and stabbing him multiple times. Sapp, 65, pleaded guilty to one count of assault with intent to commit murder.
According to the court proceedings, Sapp was working at the Post Exchange Pharmacy at Fort Leonard Wood when the incident occurred. Video footage showed Sapp reaching into his pocket, pulling out a knife, and attacking his supervisor by stabbing him in the face and head. The attack was only stopped when another pharmacy employee intervened.
After the attack, Sapp attempted to leave the pharmacy but was detained by Military Police Service. A knife with hair and blood on it was found in his pocket, and blood was discovered on his clothing and vehicle. The victim was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds, including to his head.
The prosecution of this case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ami Harshad Miller and Jessica R. Eatmon, with investigation conducted by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command.
