A man from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to child pornography and transferring obscene material to a minor. Matthew R. Taylor, 42, was arrested following the unsealing of a five-count indictment on March 26, 2025.

Taylor faces one count of receiving child pornography, one count of possessing child pornography, and three counts of attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor. The charges allege that Taylor engaged in explicit sexual communications with a person he believed to be a 14-year-old child, receiving multiple images involving a minor in sexual acts. Between April 2, 2022, and February 10, 2023, he allegedly sent obscene material to this person.

A federal search warrant conducted at Taylor's home led to the discovery of additional suspected child pornography images in his possession. The indictment's charges are accusations, not evidence, and the case will be evaluated by a federal trial jury for determination of guilt.

If convicted, Taylor could face a minimum of five years and up to seventy years in federal prison without parole. Sentencing will follow a presentence investigation, and a hearing will be scheduled accordingly. The case is prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth W. Borgnino and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. More information about the initiative is available at www.usdoj.gov/psc.
