Sporting Kansas City has signed goalkeeper Ryan Schewe to a new Major League Soccer contract that will keep him with the club through 2026, with options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. The announcement was made by the club on Tuesday.

Schewe joined Sporting Kansas City ahead of the 2024 season after being selected as the 22nd overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft. He was included in every matchday squad during the 2025 season and has played in 17 matches for Sporting KC II over two years, recording two shutouts.

Before joining Sporting Kansas City, Schewe played at Georgetown University, where he had a record of 20 wins, four losses, and four draws across two seasons. He achieved a goals against average of 0.79, secured 12 clean sheets, and made 86 saves.

Schewe received Second Team All-BIG EAST honors as a junior in 2022 after leading his conference in save percentage and shutouts. In his senior year, he helped Georgetown win the BIG EAST regular season championship and led the conference with a goals against average of 0.84 and five shutouts. His performance earned him BIG East Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST recognition.

At the youth level, Schewe spent three years each with Atlanta United Academy and United Football Academy in Georgia.

With this contract extension, Sporting Kansas City now has thirteen players under contract for the upcoming season. The current roster includes three goalkeepers: Jack Kortkamp, John Pulskamp, and Ryan Schewe; two defenders: Ian James and Jansen Miller; four midfielders: Jacob Bartlett, Zorhan Bassong, Jake Davis, Manu Garcia; and four forwards: Stephen Afrifa, Dejan Joveljic, Daniel Salloi, Shapi Suleymanov.

Upcoming MLS offseason events include the MLS College Showcase from December 10-13. Free agency opens on December 10 at noon Central Time. The Re-Entry Process Stage 1 begins on December 11 at noon CT followed by End-of-Year Waivers later that day at 4 p.m. CT. Re-Entry Process Stage 2 is scheduled for December 17 at 4 p.m., while the MLS SuperDraft takes place on December 18.
