The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 33-16, in a preseason game on Friday night. Seattle established an early lead and maintained control throughout the game.

Despite the loss, Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid emphasized the importance of evaluating individual players during the preseason. "This is a good place to get some of your young guys some reps…It's a great environment to see what you've got," Reid said. "A lot of these guys are battling to make the team, and we were able to get them in there so that we can evaluate them."

Quarterback Gardner Minshew started in place of Patrick Mahomes and completed 7-of-9 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown over three drives. The Chiefs converted three out of four third downs while Minshew was on the field. His performance included a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Robert Tonyan in the second quarter.

"I thought Minshew had a good game," Reid said. "I thought he handled things well, made some nice throws, [handled the] checks and all that stuff."

Tonyan led Kansas City with four catches for 41 yards. His touchdown reception came as he found space in Seattle's coverage after Minshew extended the play.

Kansas City's only other touchdown came late in the fourth quarter when wide receiver Skyy Moore returned a punt 88 yards for a score. Although it did not affect the outcome, Moore's effort highlighted continued competition among players trying to secure roster spots.

Several Chiefs players left the game due to injuries: linebacker Jack Cochrane (knee), cornerback Nazeeh Johnson (shoulder), cornerback Nohl Williams (concussion protocol), safety Mike Edwards (hamstring), and defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah (hamstring).

The Chiefs will conclude their preseason schedule next Friday against the Chicago Bears at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
