Adidas has introduced TRIONDA, the official match ball for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The announcement marks a key milestone as preparations continue for the tournament, which will be hosted jointly by Canada, Mexico, and the United States next June.
The ball's name, TRIONDA, combines “Tri” for three and “Onda” for waves, referencing both the trio of host nations and the ball’s design. Its red, green, and blue colors pay tribute to Canada, Mexico, and the USA. The new four-panel construction is designed for high performance and features a fluid geometry intended to replicate waves. Each panel connects in a triangle at its center—a symbol of unity among the three countries hosting the event together for the first time.
Distinctive icons are used to honor each country: a Star represents the USA, a Maple Leaf symbolizes Canada, and an Eagle signifies Mexico. These icons appear prominently on each panel as well as subtly embossed onto the matte surface of the ball.
Gold details complete the design in reference to the FIFA World Cup trophy. According to Adidas, these embellishments outline motifs across the ball’s face.
For performance enhancements, Adidas says that deep seams and strategically placed debossed lines alongside embossed icons provide optimal stability during flight by creating evenly distributed drag. The raised icons also improve grip in wet or humid conditions.
Sam Handy, General Manager at adidas Soccer said: “With TRIONDA, every detail has an impact. The embossed textures, layered graphics and bold colours make the ball stand out instantly, creating a design that feels alive in your hands. It’s the most visually playful FIFA World Cup ball we’ve ever created – a piece of craftsmanship built for the biggest stage, that makes you want to hold it, admire it, and above all, play with it.”
TRIONDA features updated Connected Ball Technology developed with Kinexon. A side-mounted chip system—now using a 500Hz inertial measurement unit (IMU) motion sensor—sits inside one panel instead of being center-mounted with suspension. Counterweights balance out other panels to ensure stable flight.
This technology delivers real-time data on ball movement directly to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) systems. Combined with player position information and artificial intelligence tools, this helps officials make faster offside decisions and can assist in identifying individual touches or potential handball incidents during matches.
Solene Stoermann, Category Director at adidas said: “Football creates joy – and no other tournament encapsulates that joy like a FIFA World Cup. For the first time, we’ll see it travel across three countries, and with that comes an Official Match Ball worthy of the occasion. As soon as the tournament hosts were announced, we knew we had to make something special – a ball that can be played everywhere from backyard to world’s biggest stage. Next summer TRIONDA is set to be a main character in biggest show on earth—and we cannot wait for fans and players to enjoy moment.”
The TRIONDA match ball is available now through Adidas retail stores and select retailers as well as online at https://www.adidas.com/us/fifa_world_cup-balls at $170 per unit.
