Senior taxpayers in Jackson County can now benefit from a new program designed to freeze their real property tax bills at the current year's rate, preventing increases in future years. This initiative is part of the Jackson County Senior Property Tax Credit Program, which aligns with recent updates to Missouri State Statute 137.1050.

The program provides relief for senior citizens by allowing those aged 62 or older to apply for a credit that effectively freezes their property taxes on their primary residence. The amount will be based on the tax bill from the year they become eligible and apply.

To qualify, applicants must meet several criteria: they need to be at least 62 years old, own or have a legal interest in the home, be responsible for paying real property taxes on it, and use it as their primary residence. Once eligibility is established in the application year, this amount becomes the base tax year figure for future credits.

For more information about the Senior Tax Credit or to apply online, interested parties are encouraged to visit the appropriate resources provided by Jackson County.
