Jason Kander is a former Army Captain, an Afghanistan veteran, a former Missouri state legislator and Secretary of State, the founder of Let America Vote, the author of two New York Times bestselling memoirs, the co-author (with his son) of one children’s book, and the host of Majority54, one of the nation’s most popular political podcasts.
In 2018, Jason was preparing to run for the presidency when he stepped away from public life to enter treatment at the VA for service-connected post-traumatic stress disorder. He is a frequent speaker and writer about his journey to post-traumatic growth and the importance of mental health treatment.
Today he works to prevent veteran suicide and end veteran homelessness as the president of national expansion at Veterans Community Project, a non-profit that builds outreach centers and villages of tiny houses for at-risk and homeless veterans across America.
After the US military pulled out of Afghanistan in 2021, Jason led an effort to evacuate a group of Afghans he came to know during his service. That successful operation led to his founding Afghan Rescue Project, a 501c3 organization that has since saved over 2,000 Afghan men, women, and children from brutal Taliban retribution.
He lives in Kansas City with his wife Diana, their son True, and their daughter Bella. In his spare time, he plays centerfield for the Kansas City Hustlers of the National
