Sporting Kansas City will conclude its 2025 away schedule with a match against Minnesota United at Allianz Field on Saturday. The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. CT and can be streamed via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV or listened to locally on ESPN 94.5 FM.

The team, which has had a disappointing season, will finish its road campaign before returning home to face the Houston Dynamo at Children’s Mercy Park on October 18. Despite not being in playoff contention, Sporting Kansas City could still influence postseason outcomes for other teams. Minnesota United currently holds third place in the Western Conference and remains close to the top of the standings, while Houston is competing for a playoff spot.

During the upcoming international break, Sporting will be without midfielder Zorhan Bassong and goalkeeper Jack Kortkamp as they represent Canada and the U.S. U-17 national teams, respectively. Both players are expected back for the final match of the season.

Earlier this year, Sporting and Minnesota played to a 3-3 draw at Children’s Mercy Park after Minnesota initially led by three goals. In their last visit to Allianz Field in June 2024, Sporting lost 3-1. Historically, Sporting leads the regular-season series against Minnesota with an overall record of 11 wins, seven losses, and five draws.

On September 30, Sporting Kansas City announced that David Lee has been appointed President of Soccer Operations and General Manager under a seven-year contract through 2032. According to the club’s statement: “Lee will serve as the club’s chief soccer officer and will play an executive leadership role in all areas of Sporting’s soccer enterprise, including first-team roster management, player recruitment, scouting, analytics, technical staff oversight and the continued development of Sporting KC II and the Sporting KC Academy. He will report directly to the club’s ownership group and will oversee Sporting Director Mike Burns and interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin.”

David Lee previously worked as Sporting Director at New York City FC (NYCFC), where he was part of several successful campaigns including an MLS Cup win in 2021 and Campeones Cup victory in 2022. During his time there from 2016-2025, NYCFC achieved nine playoff appearances—the most among Major League Soccer clubs over that period—and led MLS in regular season points.

Forward Dejan Joveljic continues his strong form for Sporting Kansas City after scoring his 18th goal of the season during last weekend's loss against LA Galaxy. Joveljic is now tied for second-most goals scored in a single regular season by a Sporting player—matching Preki’s record—and trails only Dom Dwyer’s tally from 2014. Since early 2024, Joveljic ranks third among all MLS players for total goals scored.

Midfielder Zorhan Bassong has been called up by Canada for two friendlies during October's FIFA international window—against Australia in Montreal on October 10 and Colombia in New Jersey on October 14. Bassong participated with Canada at this summer's Concacaf Gold Cup and recently earned his sixth cap during a friendly win over Romania.
