Sporting Kansas City II is set to play St. Louis CITY2 on Sunday in the final regular season meeting between the two teams for the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro campaign. The match will take place at Energizer Park in St. Louis, Missouri, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the game via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Ike Opara, serving as interim head coach, will guide Sporting KC II after making his debut last week against Houston Dynamo 2. In recent away matches, Sporting KC II has managed two wins out of three and scored eight goals overall. Their latest victory was a 3-2 comeback over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.
Medgy Alexandre played a key role in that win by scoring twice and went on to net six goals across four consecutive games, bringing his season total to eight—the highest among SKC II players this year. His scoring streak ended last week against Houston Dynamo 2, but Maouloune Goumballe contributed a goal in that match and now has three goals and three assists for the season.
Goumballe’s goal was assisted by Blaine Mabie, who recently joined SKC II from Georgetown University ahead of their west coast road trip. Since joining in July, Mabie has started three of five appearances and provided his first professional assist.
In goal, Jacob Molinaro made his ninth start against Houston Dynamo 2 and has recorded 34 saves along with six positive results from those starts this season. Defender Ian James also returned to the starting lineup; he is just 17 years old and has appeared in matches for both SKC II and Sporting Kansas City’s first team.
St. Louis CITY2 comes into Sunday’s fixture unbeaten in their last 13 games and were the first team this season to secure a playoff berth, currently leading the league with 51 points. Their attack is led by Mykhi Joyner with 14 goals and three assists.
After facing St. Louis CITY2, Sporting KC II will host Colorado Rapids 2 on August 31 at Children’s Mercy Victory Field before playing Real Monarchs at Swope Soccer Village. Tickets are available through SeatGeek.com for $10 per match.
