The Kansas City Chiefs continued their training camp on Tuesday with the seventh practice session as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season. The team, which has won the AFC championship three times in a row, faced challenging conditions during this session.
A portion of Tuesday's practice was livestreamed, giving fans an inside look at the team's preparations and discussions about the wide receiver and defensive back groups. Two more livestreams are planned for August 2 and August 5.
Tuesday's practice was described as the toughest so far, taking place under hot and humid conditions. It was also the longest session yet, lasting two hours and 25 minutes. The team went through several drills including a 9-on-7 period focused on running plays, one-on-one pass-protection drills, and a long drive drill period.
Head Coach Andy Reid commented on the effort from his players: "It's hard work. You're out here in the heat, and it's tough," Reid said. "The guys battled through. I appreciate the tempo that they set and all of the energy they gave."
During one segment of practice, running backs, tight ends, linebackers, and safeties competed in drills that tested both offensive blocking skills and defensive coverage abilities. Tight end Noah Gray and running back Elijah Mitchell were noted as standouts in these exercises.
In an 11-on-11 red zone period, rookie wide receiver Jalen Royals made a notable catch over his shoulder in the corner of the end zone. Wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Skyy Moore also made impressive catches during this drill. On defense, cornerback Trent McDuffie recorded an interception in the end zone while cornerback Nazeeh Johnson broke up a pass.
The injury report from Tuesday included several players who did not participate due to various injuries: cornerbacks Kristian Fulton (knee), Darius Rush (hamstring), Eric Scott (hamstring), safety Deon Bush (hamstring), linebacker Jeffrey Bassa (ankle), and tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring). In addition, wide receiver Hollywood Brown (ankle), wide receiver Xavier Worthy (head injury), linebacker Cooper McDonald (illness), and wide receiver Skyy Moore (hamstring) left practice early. Most of these injuries are not expected to be long-term issues.
The Chiefs will return to practice on Wednesday for their eighth session of training camp.
