In a tightly contested match, Sporting Kansas City secured a 1-1 draw against New York City FC at Children’s Mercy Park. The team introduced a new lineup, featuring the return of midfielder Nemanja Radoja as a starter for the first time since May.
The starting lineup included John Pulskamp, Andrew Brody (Khiry Shelton, 47’), Jansen Miller, Joaquín Fernández, Logan Ndenbe, Manu García (Jake Davis 67’), Jacob Bartlett (Santiago Muñoz, 67’), Nemanja Radoja (Zorhan Bassong, 47’), Shapi Suleymanov (Mason Toye, 87’), Dejan Joveljić, and Daniel Salloi. The substitutes were Memo Rodríguez, Tim Leibold, Ryan Schewe, and Ian James.
In the first half, Sporting KC sought an early goal despite the extreme heat in Kansas City. Both teams pushed for an advantage from the outset. NYCFC had their first opportunity with a header cleared in the third minute. Minutes later, Salloi's attempt narrowly missed. Logan Ndenbe scored an impressive goal in the 19th minute.
Andrés Perea scored the night's first goal in the 22nd minute after receiving a pass from Maxi Moralez. NYCFC took the lead into halftime as Sporting struggled to find an equalizer.
Sporting made changes at halftime with Zorhan Bassong replacing Radoja and Khiry Shelton coming on for Brody. These adjustments brought new energy to the team. Further substitutions changed the team's formation and helped produce an equalizer in the 74th minute. Santiago Muñoz's shot was saved by NYCFC's goalkeeper but Salloi managed to score on his birthday to level the match. His efforts earned Sporting KC a valuable point against tough opposition.
