A Mexican national, Andres G. Angel-Martinez, has admitted guilt in a federal court for unlawfully reentering the United States after being previously deported. The 25-year-old pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to one count of returning to the U.S. illegally following removal.
Angel-Martinez was detained on April 15, 2025, at the Cass County Jail in Missouri due to an immigration law violation. He could face up to two years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. His sentencing date is yet to be determined by Judge Kays. Angel-Martinez remains in custody awaiting his sentencing hearing.
In a separate case, Victor Hugo Vasquez-Perez from Guatemala also pleaded guilty in federal court for possessing a fraudulent Permanent Resident card. On March 15, 2025, Vasquez-Perez was apprehended in Independence, Missouri when law enforcement officers discovered him with a fake Permanent Resident card and Social Security card featuring his photo but under a false name.
Vasquez-Perez faces a potential sentence of up to ten years in federal prison with his sentencing date also pending determination by Judge Kays. He too remains in custody until his sentencing hearing.
Both cases are prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rudolph R. Rhodes IV and were investigated by Immigration & Customs Enforcement along with Homeland Security Investigations.
These prosecutions are part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while safeguarding communities from violent crime perpetrators through coordinated efforts involving various Department of Justice resources.
