Sporting Kansas City midfielder Zorhan Bassong has been called up to the Canada Men’s National Team for two international friendlies in October. Bassong will join his national squad as they prepare to face Australia on October 10 at Saputo Stadium in Montreal, followed by a match against Colombia on October 14 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.

Before reporting for international duty, Bassong is expected to be available for Sporting Kansas City's upcoming match against Minnesota United FC. The game is scheduled for Saturday with a kickoff at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.

Bassong has been active with the Canadian national team throughout 2025. He participated in the Concacaf Gold Cup earlier this year, making two appearances during the group stage, including a full match at left back in a draw against Curacao and contributing to a win over Honduras. His most recent cap came during a friendly victory over Romania on September 5.

Canada enters these friendlies having already secured automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as one of the host nations alongside the United States and Mexico. The team currently holds its highest-ever position at No. 26 in the FIFA world rankings and is unbeaten in nine matches since March.

During his second season with Sporting Kansas City, Bassong has started 17 out of 24 games across all competitions. He scored his first professional goal against FC Cincinnati on April 26 and provided assists in matches against New England Revolution, Houston Dynamo FC, and Seattle Sounders FC. He also wore the captain’s armband for Sporting KC for the first time this August.

Bassong is versatile on the field, playing both central midfield and left back roles. In his debut season with Sporting Kansas City last year, he helped lead the club to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final after transitioning from left back to midfield.

Born in Toronto and raised in Montreal, Bassong began his youth career in Belgium before joining academy systems at Anderlecht and Lille. He played professionally for Lille B before moving to Cercle Brugge and later spent two seasons with CF Montreal where he contributed to their Canadian Championship title run in 2021.

In addition to his experience in Major League Soccer, Bassong played for Romanian clubs Arges Pitesti and Farul Constanta prior to signing with Sporting Kansas City in December 2023.
