Sporting Kansas City managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake in a match held at Children’s Mercy Park. The game saw Sporting Kansas City, with a record of 5-10-5, face off against Real Salt Lake, which stands at 5-10-4. Johnny Russell gave RSL the lead just before halftime by scoring against his former club. Erik Thommy equalized for Sporting KC in the 59th minute with an impressive shot from distance.
Manu Garcia assisted Thommy's goal, marking his ninth assist this season and maintaining an active streak of assists in four consecutive matches. This performance places him third in Major League Soccer (MLS) for assists.

Russell's goal came from an Alexandros Katranis cross, and he chose not to celebrate out of respect for his former fans. In response, Kerry Zavagnin’s team improved their play after halftime.
In the second half, Thommy scored with assistance from Garcia, bringing Sporting KC level with RSL once more. Despite being reduced to ten men after Jake Davis received a red card, Sporting managed to hold onto their draw thanks to defensive efforts from Jansen Miller and others.
The match concluded with both teams sharing points as they continue through their respective MLS seasons.
