An Ozark, Missouri man has admitted to attempting to evade taxation. Ryan J. McMillin, 52, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of this offense. During his plea, McMillin acknowledged that he failed to report income earned as a timeshare salesman for four companies from 2018 to 2023.
McMillin's employers did not withhold taxes from his paychecks due to his claim of exempt status on W-4 forms. He also neglected to file an income tax return or pay taxes for six years, resulting in an estimated $581,981 owed to the IRS.
Federal law allows for a sentence of up to five years in prison without parole for such offenses. However, the actual sentence will be determined by the court based on advisory guidelines and other factors after a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Casey Clark is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by IRS-Criminal Investigations.
