A Kansas City man, Christopher R.P. Beaman, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison without parole for methamphetamine trafficking and illegal firearm possession. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Howard Sachs, who ordered five years for each charge to be served consecutively. Following his release, Beaman will undergo three years of supervised release.
Beaman had pleaded guilty on November 26, 2024, to charges of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and knowingly possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
The case began on July 1, 2023, when officers from the Independence, Missouri Police Department stopped a black Mazda truck with expired plates and missing door handles. Beaman was identified as the driver. Officers observed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and asked Beaman to exit the truck. As an officer prepared to search the vehicle based on probable cause, Beaman fled but was apprehended after a brief chase involving a Taser.
A subsequent search of the truck revealed a .45 caliber revolver with an obliterated serial number and approximately 23.3 grams of methamphetamine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Trey Alford prosecuted the case following an investigation by the Independence Police Department.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The initiative emphasizes fostering community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
