Bishop James V. Johnston | Kansas City Archdiocese
The Diocese of Kansas City is calling for donations to support the education of future priests through its "Tomorrow’s Priest" fund. This annual collection, scheduled for May 17-18, 2025, aims to alleviate the financial burden associated with seminary education.
Bishop James V. Johnston, Jr. expressed gratitude for past contributions and highlighted the importance of this initiative. "There is never a bad time to count our blessings," he stated, emphasizing the significance of seminarians who are preparing to serve as future priests.
Currently, 19 young men are engaged in seminary studies within the diocese. The cost of educating each seminarian amounts to approximately $50,000 annually, covering tuition, room, board, and other expenses. This results in an overall expense nearing one million dollars each year.
The bishop underscored that the special collection is crucial in offsetting these costs and urged continued generosity from the community. He also requested prayers for an increase in vocations: "The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few," he quoted from the Gospel.
One seminarian will be ordained on May 24 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Kansas City.
