Governor Mike Kehoe has directed the Missouri State Capitol dome to be illuminated in green from sunrise on May 7, 2025, until sunrise on May 8, 2025. This initiative is part of recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month and the week of May 4-10, 2025, as Children’s Mental Health Week.

“It’s important to talk about mental health and the resources that are available for Missourians who need help and support,” Governor Kehoe stated. He emphasized that those facing mental health challenges are not alone and highlighted his administration's efforts with the Missouri Department of Mental Health to enhance resource sharing and treatment access.

Governor Kehoe will also issue a proclamation declaring May 2025 as Mental Health Awareness Month in Missouri and the specified week as Children’s Mental Health Week. Statistics indicate that one in six children and youth have a diagnosable mental illness, with around half of individuals experiencing lifetime mental health challenges showing symptoms by age 14.

“May is a great time to shine a light on the importance of mental health,” said Valerie Huhn, Director of the Missouri Department of Mental Health. She expressed pride in seeing the Capitol dome lit green this year for mental health awareness while continuing to offer resources and support for Missourians.

For those contemplating suicide or experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, or if concerned about someone else, assistance is available through the Missouri 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline via call, text, or chat.

Photos of the Capitol illuminated in green will be accessible on Governor Kehoe's Flickr page.
