Governor Mike Parson of Missouri has signed Executive Order 25-01 in anticipation of hazardous winter weather forecasted to impact the state this weekend. The order aims to facilitate preparations by waiving specific hours of service requirements for commercial vehicles transporting residential heating fuel and authorizing the activation of the Missouri National Guard if necessary.

Governor Parson stated, "With a hazardous winter storm forecasted for this weekend, we want to be prepared to respond however may be needed." He emphasized the importance of proactive preparation both by residents and state authorities, ensuring homes remain heated and government readiness is maintained.

The executive order specifically suspends hours of service regulations for motor carriers transporting residential heating fuels such as propane, natural gas, and heating oil. It also grants authority to the Adjutant General of Missouri to activate portions of the organized militia as deemed necessary.

A winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service covers nearly all counties in Missouri from Saturday afternoon through Monday morning. Forecasts predict snow and sleet accumulations exceeding 10 inches in several areas, particularly northern Missouri. Power outages and tree damage are anticipated due to accumulating ice, with extreme cold expected into next week during overnight hours.

Motorists are advised to delay travel where possible and exercise caution if travel is unavoidable. Checking road conditions beforehand is recommended. The Missouri Department of Transportation offers a Traveler Information Map app for free download on smart devices.

Additionally, health and safety tips have been provided by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services in preparation for severe winter weather conditions.

Executive Order 25-01 will remain effective until January 13, 2025.
