Michael L. Parson, 57th Governor of Missouri | Missouri Gov. Michael Parson
Today, Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced the deployment of state resources to Florida in response to an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request. This move is aimed at aiding efforts related to Hurricane Milton. The deployment includes 100 members of the Missouri National Guard (MONG), 21 Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) troopers and civilian support staff, and five members from the Missouri Disaster Medical Assistance Team (MO DMAT-1).
Governor Parson emphasized Missouri's readiness to assist other states during crises. "Missouri always stands ready to assist our fellow states in need, and as Governor Ron DeSantis and the people of Florida brace for one of the strongest and potentially most destructive hurricanes in recent memory, Missouri will be there to help them respond and recover," he stated. He also mentioned ongoing assessments for further assistance following Hurricane Helene's impact on other states.
Missouri personnel are preparing to arrive in Florida after Hurricane Milton's immediate threats subside. Their assistance duration is projected between five to 20 days, subject to change based on needs. The operation's estimated cost is $1.6 million, primarily funded by the Governor's Office discretionary emergency response fund, with potential federal reimbursement.
The MONG will provide transportation and logistics support using vehicles capable of traversing difficult terrains to deliver essential supplies. MSHP has assembled a team equipped for sustained operations without affecting its service level in Missouri. MO DMAT-1 will offer medical or logistical support as needed.
While no direct EMAC requests have been received from states affected by Hurricane Helene, Missouri remains open to providing assistance if requested.
Governor Parson encouraged individuals wishing to help by donating through trusted disaster relief organizations like the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster. Financial contributions are preferred for their flexibility in addressing urgent needs.
