Jefferson City — Today, Governor Mike Parson has directed for U.S. and Missouri flags to be flown at half-staff at government buildings in Lafayette County and all police stations in Missouri on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in memory of Lake Lafayette Police Department Chief Steven A. Singer.
Chief Singer, who tragically passed away while on duty, dedicated two decades of his life to serving and safeguarding his community. Governor Parson expressed his gratitude for Chief Singer's service, stating, “Chief Singer devoted 20 years of his life to protecting his community and was committed to advancing professional development among law enforcement investigators as an active member of the Missouri Investigators Association.” The Governor also extended his condolences, saying, “We are grateful for his public service, and Teresa and I send our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
On the evening of April 7, Chief Singer responded to a call regarding trespassers near Lake Lafayette. Tragically, he suffered a fatal heart attack in the early hours of April 8, marking the end of his distinguished 20-year career in law enforcement.
Chief Singer, aged 48, was a respected veteran in the field of law enforcement. He joined the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office in June 2004 as a deputy before assuming the role of Chief of the Lake Lafayette Police Department.
Throughout his career, Chief Singer was actively involved in the Missouri Investigators Association, serving on various committees and eventually holding leadership positions within the organization. His contributions to professional development and law enforcement will be remembered by his colleagues and the community he served.
As a mark of respect, the flags will remain at half-staff on the day of Chief Singer’s memorial service, honoring his dedication and service to the Lake Lafayette community.
