Charlotte, a young patient at Children's Mercy Kansas, was diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) after initially showing symptoms that appeared to be a routine illness. According to her mother, Emmry, Charlotte had developed a rash and became extremely pale, prompting further medical attention. “We had already taken her to the doctor once, but my mother’s instinct was that this isn’t a normal day care [sickness],” Emmry said.

After being taken to Children's Mercy Kansas, Charlotte was transferred to the Adele Hall Campus for admission. Her condition worsened over several days, leading dermatology specialists to consult Dr. J. Allyson Hays, Director of the Histiocytosis Program, about the possibility of LCH.

Charlotte's story was featured on KCTV 5. The Children's Mercy Cancer Center provides care for children facing similar rare diagnoses.
