On October 1, the Kansas City Chiefs named Andrew Blakemore of University Academy in Missouri and Rod Stallbaumer of Basehor-Linwood High School in Kansas as their Week 5 High School Coaches of the Week for the 2025 football season. The recognition highlights local coaches for their achievements on the field and leadership off it.
Both coaches will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation, a Chiefs bucket hat, a certificate of recognition, and a custom game ball. They are also eligible for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which is decided by a panel from the Missouri and Kansas Boards of the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association at season’s end.
University Academy improved to a 5-1 record after defeating Kauffman School 28-0 on September 26. Since losing their season opener to Lincoln College Prep by one point, University Academy has won four straight games with a combined score margin of 146-6. The team will play Summit Christian Academy at home on October 3.
"I want to express my immense gratitude to the Chiefs for being named Coach of the Week," Blakemore said. "This award truly belongs to THE CO-OP's incredible coaching staff and to the young men who we are blessed to work with. Through their relentless dedication to being meticulous, positive, and together, we continue to grow as a team."
Blakemore is in his third year as head coach but has been part of University Academy’s program since 2012 in various roles. He previously received this honor in Week 4 of the 2022 season.
Basehor-Linwood remained undefeated after overcoming De Soto Wildcats in a close contest that ended 42-38. The Bobcats entered the fourth quarter ahead but fell behind before regaining the lead with just seconds left. Their offense produced over 500 total yards during the game. The team will face West High School Chargers at home on October 3.
"This award is a reflection of the hard work of our student athletes, the dedication of our assistant coaches and the support of our parents and community, all three factors are paramount to a successful football program," Stallbaumer said.
"We are very blessed here at Basehor-Linwood and appreciative of the recognition. We also want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs and PrepsKC for their continued support and dedication to high school football in Kansas City."
Stallbaumer has led Basehor-Linwood for twelve years with an overall record of 87-32 since taking over in 2014. This marks his third consecutive year receiving Coach of the Week honors.
The High School Coach of the Week program is now in its twenty-ninth year as an initiative between the Kansas City Chiefs and National Football League, recognizing coaches who impact student-athletes beyond football.
The selection process involves PrepsKC—a multimedia outlet that covers high school sports across Kansas City through its website, magazine, and radio show—for sixteen years. More information about PrepsKC can be found at www.prepskc.com.
