Sporting Kansas City II will end their 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season with an away match against MNUFC 2 at the National Sports Center Stadium in Blaine, Minnesota. The match is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. CT and will be available on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV, coinciding with other Western Conference Decision Day games.
The teams last faced each other on August 8 in Rochester, Minnesota. In that game, Sporting KC II led 2-1 after a second-half brace from Medgy Alexandre but conceded late goals to Momoh Kamara and Luke Hille, resulting in a win for MNUFC 2. Earlier in the season, MNUFC also defeated SKC II in Kansas City.
Sporting KC II has recently achieved three positive results in their last four matches, with each of those games featuring goals scored after the 85th minute. Interim head coach Ike Opara aims to continue this momentum as the team closes out its season.
This year, five players from the Sporting KC Academy who signed professional contracts have played significant roles for SKC II. Cielo Tschantret has captained nearly every match and scored three goals. Shane Donovan has contributed across all positions on the field, ranking fourth in minutes played and recording two assists.
Goalkeeper Jacob Molinaro has started twelve matches, made forty-three saves, and helped secure six results for his team. Johann Ortiz leads SKC II with four assists, while Nati Clarke has one goal and two assists after appearing in every match so far.
Returning professionals Maouloune Goumballe and Medgy Alexandre have continued to be key players following successful seasons in 2024. Goumballe is the only player to start every game this year and has five goals along with three assists. Alexandre leads SKC II with eight goals.
New addition Pierre Lurot has been consistent as centerback over twenty-five appearances and scored his first professional goal during a draw at North Texas SC in September. Midseason signing Blaine Mabie has started nine of eleven appearances since joining SKC II, scoring twice and providing one assist.
The club’s academy system continues to supply amateur talent ready for competition at this level. Carter Derksen leads all academy amateurs with twenty-two appearances, ten starts, two goals, and over nine hundred minutes played. Zane Wantland has contributed significantly as a winger through five starts under Opara’s management.
Fourteen-year-old Zamir Loyo Reynaga became the youngest player ever to appear for Sporting KC II when he debuted during their most recent match—surpassing previous record-holder Ian James.
Minnesota United FC 2 (MNUFC 2) has already qualified for the playoffs but cannot advance enough to secure a home playoff game; their opponent will be determined by MLS NEXT Pro's Pick Your Opponent format among top seeds. Jeremy Hall’s squad features Luke Hille—who scored against SKC II earlier this season—with ten goals from seventeen starts.
After Sunday’s match concludes the regular season for Sporting KC II, roster decisions will begin ahead of preparations for next year’s campaign.
