Sgt. 1st Class Gil Rodriguez will be honored as this week's "Tribute to the Troops" honoree, a recognition presented by Crown Royal during the Kansas City Chiefs' upcoming home game against the Baltimore Ravens at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs have maintained a longstanding tradition of supporting military personnel through their "Tribute to the Troops" program, which acknowledges members of the Armed Forces at every home game. This initiative highlights individuals from the local community who have demonstrated exceptional service.

Sgt. 1st Class Rodriguez has served in the U.S. Army since 2014. He described his motivation for enlisting: "I joined to pursue a better opportunity to create a family, and to serve my country," Sgt. 1st Class Rodriguez said. "The assignments have become more challenging over the years due to the responsibility associated with the duty positions, but they have been rewarding."

Rodriguez was named the 2025 Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Drill Sergeant of the Year at Fort Leonard Wood in July after just one year as a drill sergeant. The competition included over 700 participants and tested skills such as first aid, marksmanship, physical readiness training, land navigation, and instructional methods.

"I get to have a hand in training Soldiers and make a difference in their lives," Sgt. 1st Class Rodriguez told the Fort Leonard Wood Public Affairs Office. "I work hard to make sure they are disciplined and are the very best Soldiers I can send to the Army."

After winning at Fort Leonard Wood, Rodriguez represented his base at a national competition held earlier this month at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. He has since returned to Kansas City, where he will be recognized during Sunday's game.

Fans attending will have an opportunity to acknowledge Sgt. 1st Class Rodriguez's contributions and dedication.
