Governor Mike Kehoe has issued Executive Order 25-29, declaring a drought alert for Missouri through December 1, 2025. The order follows data from the U.S. Drought Monitor showing that all or parts of 85 counties and the City of St. Louis are facing moderate to extreme drought conditions.
"This executive order allows our state agencies to step in and direct resources to those struggling with the consequences of drought, while allowing for vigilant monitoring of conditions over the next few months," Governor Kehoe said. "While much of our state is anticipating rainfall this week, we expect drought conditions to continue impacting agriculture and waterway navigation. We urge Missourians to report their local conditions in order to help local, state, and federal partners to best understand impacts."
The executive order covers the affected counties as well as any others that may experience moderate drought during this period. State officials emphasize that reports from residents about local drought impacts are important for shaping timely assistance efforts. Citizens can submit condition reports through the Condition Monitoring Observer Reports (CMOR) platform.
The Missouri Drought Mitigation and Response Plan guides intergovernmental cooperation on drought mitigation measures. Additional information on resources and updates is available at www.dnr.mo.gov/drought, where residents can find news, maps, links to CMOR, details on previous droughts, and assistance opportunities.
Executive Order 25-29 remains effective until December 1 unless it is ended or extended by further action.
