A Mexican national has been sentenced to 25 months in prison for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported following a conviction for an aggravated felony. Marcos Martinez-Jimenez, 42, pleaded guilty and received his sentence from U.S. District Judge Greg Kays on September 17, 2025.
Court records indicate that Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested Martinez-Jimenez during a vehicle stop in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 11, 2025. Martinez-Jimenez had previously been convicted in Johnson County, Kansas, in 2007 for Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child Under 14. He served a prison term of 61 months and was deported to Mexico in 2011 after completing his sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brent Venneman prosecuted the case. The investigation was conducted by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), Chicago Field Office, Kansas City Sub-Office.
The prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, which is described as “a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.” According to the Department of Justice, “Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”
