A Kansas City man has been indicted on a federal charge of illegal firearm possession. Malik Holman, 27, faces one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to an indictment that replaces a previous federal criminal complaint filed on September 5, 2025.
Court documents state that on September 4, 2025, detectives from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department saw Holman with a firearm. Officers detained him, found the handgun, and arrested him for illegal possession. Earlier that day, Holman had met with his state parole officer.
Federal law prohibits individuals convicted of felonies from possessing firearms or ammunition. Holman has a prior felony conviction for robbery.
Officials emphasized that "the charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence."
Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Siegele is prosecuting the case. The investigation was conducted by the Kansas City Missouri Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The case falls under Operation Take Back America, which brings together resources from the Department of Justice to address issues such as illegal immigration and violent crime through programs like Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
