A Kansas City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to child pornography. Cody Tyler Titus, 24, of Kansas City, Missouri, faces one count of attempting to access with intent to view child pornography over the internet between November 2, 2022, and November 19, 2023. Titus was arrested and made his initial court appearance.
According to the indictment, "The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence."
If convicted under federal statutes for attempted access with intent to view child pornography, Titus could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The maximum sentence is set by Congress for informational purposes; sentencing will ultimately be determined by the court based on advisory guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing will take place after a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa A. Moore is prosecuting the case following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
"This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
