The Kansas City Chiefs held their 15th training camp practice on Monday morning as the team continued preparations for the upcoming NFL season. The session was structured as a "10-10-10" practice, which involves a circuit of 10 offensive plays, 10 defensive plays, and 10 special teams plays. This format is designed to allow each phase of the team to experience success by matching first-team units against second or third-team counterparts.

"The opposing unit is still encouraged to make plays, but if the concept plays out properly, each segment of the team will experience what success looks like within the given scheme."

During Monday's session, nearly three full circuits of this format were completed with three offensive periods, three defensive periods, and two special teams segments.

Prior to practice, the Chiefs signed rookie defensive end Nate Matlack. Matlack is from Olathe and played at Kansas State before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh for his final college season. At Pittsburgh in 2024, he recorded 7.5 tackles-for-loss, five sacks, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 13 games. He previously participated in rookie minicamp with the Chiefs earlier in the summer on a tryout basis.

The offense focused on executing screen passes during one segment of practice. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with several teammates including tailback Kareem Hunt, tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Rashee Rice, wide receiver Xavier Worthy, and tailback Elijah Mitchell.

On defense, cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Kristian Fulton each made an interception during red zone drills that emphasized defending passes and runs in goal-to-go situations. Rookie cornerback Nohl Williams also stood out by recording a pass breakup near the sideline.

Several players missed Monday’s practice due to injury: wide receiver Hollywood Brown (ankle), tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring), defensive end Janarius Robinson (foot fracture), cornerback Jaylen Watson (concussion protocol), and offensive tackle Ethan Driskell (recovering from an appendectomy). It was also confirmed that safety Deon Bush suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon on Saturday and will require surgery. Both Bush and Robinson were placed on season-ending Injured Reserve.

The Chiefs are scheduled to return for their next training camp practice on Tuesday.
