The Kansas City Chiefs held their 12th training camp practice on Tuesday morning as the team continued preparations for the upcoming NFL season. The session included a livestream, which featured commentary on the quarterback and linebacker groups. This was the final livestream of the summer, and previous sessions are available on the Chiefs' YouTube page.
During practice, the Chiefs focused on a "long drive drill," starting at their own 1-yard line to simulate in-game situations where both offense and defense must respond quickly with limited time between plays. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the first-team offense through 15 plays in this segment, including a notable pass to wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Veteran wide receiver Tyquan Thornton continued to impress during camp. He made two significant catches during 7-on-7 drills that drew cheers from over 5,000 fans present. Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy commented, "You get these opportunities to make plays, and he has done that. I think there's a lot of trust building right now between him and Pat. He's a smart kid. He does a lot of things the right way, you can tell he's been in this league a little bit, and he has that experience factor where he can help out these young guys, too."
Newly signed wide receiver Key'Shawn Smith also stood out by making an acrobatic catch during 11-on-11 drills after initially losing control of the ball due to defensive pressure but regaining it before hitting the ground. Smith joined Kansas City after signing with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent following his college career at SMU.
Other players who made notable contributions included safety Glendon Miller, who forced a fumble during team drills, and wide receiver Nikko Remigio with an over-the-shoulder catch in one-on-one play.
The injury report for Tuesday listed linebacker Drue Tranquill (back), wide receiver Hollywood Brown (ankle), cornerback Kristian Fulton (knee), and tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring) as not participating due to injuries.
The Chiefs will return for their next training camp practice on Wednesday.
