A Mexican national has been sentenced in Kansas City, Missouri, for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. Jaime Flores-Ortega, 31, received a sentence of 26 months in prison from Senior U.S. District Judge Howard Sachs on August 5, 2025.
Flores-Ortega pleaded guilty to unlawful reentry after deportation for an aggravated felony. According to court documents, he was arrested by Kansas City police on October 26, 2024, for leaving the scene of an accident. Authorities later determined that Flores-Ortega was in the country illegally and had previously been removed twice to Mexico.
In October 2016, Flores-Ortega was convicted in the Western District of Missouri for being an alien in possession of a firearm. He was subsequently deported from the United States in 2017.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rudolph R. Rhodes IV and investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), Chicago Field Office, Kansas City Sub-Office.
