The Kansas City Chiefs held their sixth training camp practice on Monday, continuing preparations for the upcoming NFL season. The session featured several notable moments and updates as the team builds toward its regular schedule.
Monday’s practice was marked by "Ambassadors and Legends Day," an annual event where about two dozen former Chiefs players attended. These alumni watched from a tailgate suite and later addressed the current roster after practice, sharing their experiences and helping to break down the huddle. According to the organization, this tradition remains one of camp's most memorable events.
Players practiced in pads for the second consecutive day as part of a gradual ramp-up period. The session was slightly longer than Sunday’s, with full-length padded practices set to begin soon. Coaches are using these sessions to evaluate new additions, including rookie offensive tackle Josh Simmons.
"I like where he's at mentally right now," said Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy. "We all see what goes on out here at practice, but then we take it to walk-throughs inside, and he's so laser-focused and [listening to Offensive Line Coach Andy Heck]. Maybe there's a mistake or an assignment where he didn't go to the right spot, so we repeat it and go through it, and he can't have enough of those. Physically, he's super talented. It's the mental side and the communication part [that he's working on], but I really like where he's at. He's a true pro right now, and this is just the beginning."
Linebacker Leo Chenal made what coaches described as the play of the day during 7-on-7 drills by tipping a pass over the middle before making a diving interception. Cornerbacks Chris Roland-Wallace and Nazeeh Johnson also contributed with notable pass breakups during drills. Defensive end Charles Omenihu drew attention for disrupting a running play in red zone action during 11-on-11 work.
Special teams practiced specific game situations on Monday, including "backed-up punt" scenarios with punters Matt Araiza and Eddie Czaplicki taking snaps near their own goal line.
On the injury front, cornerback Darius Rush missed practice due to a hamstring injury, joining tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring) and cornerback Kristian Fulton (knee) on Monday’s report. Rookie defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott returned to participate after briefly leaving Sunday’s session with an ankle issue.
The Chiefs will return for their seventh training camp practice on Tuesday.
