On July 16, 2025, two Kansas City men, Makih A. Hall, 21, and Lazaro Medina-Lopez, 29, were charged with conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, Hobbs Act robbery, and two counts of bank robbery. The charges are part of a federal indictment filed in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Missouri. Hall faces an additional charge for attempted Hobbs Act robbery while Medina-Lopez is also charged with attempted bank robbery.

The indictment alleges that between June 1 and June 14, 2024, Hall and Medina-Lopez jointly robbed or attempted to rob several banks, credit unions, and businesses across the Kansas City area.

It is important to note that these charges are accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence must be presented to a federal trial jury to determine their guilt or innocence.

If convicted under federal statutes, each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment without parole. The sentencing will be determined by the court based on advisory guidelines after a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Q. McCarther is prosecuting this case which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Kansas City Police Department, and the Independence Police Department.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.
