The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their upcoming training camp with a focus on evaluating the linebacker position. The team currently has nine linebackers on the roster, including last year's starters Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill, and Leo Chenal.

Nick Bolton led the defense with 106 tackles last season and played a crucial role in calling defensive plays. His leadership was highlighted by cornerback Trent McDuffie, who credited Bolton's decision-making during Super Bowl LVIII as pivotal.

Drue Tranquill enters his third season with the Chiefs after contributing significantly to the team's defense last year. He stepped up as a defensive signal-caller when Bolton was injured in 2023.

Leo Chenal, recognized by Pro Football Focus as the top-graded linebacker for the Chiefs last season, showed improvement in his coverage skills and was active both defensively and on special teams.

Rookie Jeffrey Bassa from Oregon is among those vying for a spot. He expressed eagerness to learn from veterans like Bolton and Tranquill.

Other players such as Jack Cochrane, Cole Christiansen, Brandon George, Cooper McDonald, and Cam Jones are also competing for positions. The final roster spots will likely be determined by contributions on special teams alongside defensive performance during camp.
