A Kansas City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for illegal possession of ammunition. Brian H. Brown, 49, faces charges following an incident on July 3, 2025. This indictment replaces a previous criminal complaint filed against him on July 7, 2025.

Brown is charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition. The case began when Kansas City police officers responded to a disturbance involving an armed party at approximately 6:30 p.m. on July 3 at the intersection of 97th Terrace and Holmes Avenue. Officers identified Brown as the suspect involved in the disturbance and suspected him of driving while intoxicated.

An officer attempted to arrest Brown, leading to a struggle during which a handgun was found in his shorts pocket. The firearm, identified as a Polymer 80 "P-80," was loaded with eleven rounds of ammunition but had no visible serial number.

Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms or ammunition. Brown's criminal record includes felony convictions for drug trafficking, distribution and possession of controlled substances, and prior firearm possession as a felon.

The charges are accusations that must be proven in court. A federal trial jury will determine guilt or innocence based on evidence presented during the trial.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica L. Jennings is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Kansas City Police Department.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and organized crime while protecting communities from violent criminals.
