A Blue Springs, Missouri man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for illegal possession of ammunition. William Anthony Chaney, 38, faces charges as a felon in possession of ammunition after previous convictions in the Western District of Missouri for conspiracy to distribute PCP and conspiracy to commit money laundering in 2016.
The indictment alleges that on or about May 24, 2025, Chaney illegally possessed ammunition that had traveled in interstate commerce, knowing he was a prior felon. At the time, Chaney was on federal supervised release for his earlier conviction.
"The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt," reads the statement. "Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence."
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth W. Borgnino is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Blue Springs Missouri Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF).
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. The operation combines resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
