A photograph has the power to capture raw emotion and preserve fleeting moments. Over the coming weeks, the Kansas City Chiefs will highlight 10 of the best photos from their 2024-25 season, with insights from Steve Sanders, Director of Photography.
Currently at No. 5 is a photo titled "Stealing Gold," taken during Week 7 in San Francisco. The image captures safety Jaden Hicks celebrating his first career interception with teammates. Mikayla Schlosser took this photo using a Canon EOS R3 camera with a focal length of 400 mm, an exposure time of 1/1,250, and an aperture of f/2.8.
Sanders shared his thoughts on why this photo was included in the collection: "This was just a great day. The weather was great, and the team was playing really well. This photograph happened right after Hicks' first-career interception... It's such a great image."
He added that capturing emotions like these is one of his favorite parts of photography: "Especially when you're able to show an image like this to the player afterwards."
Sanders also mentioned how Schlosser loved this picture so much that it was printed on metal and placed beside her desk: "We have shots of the interception, too... This is amazing."
On California's unique lighting, Sanders said: "It just seems like it comes in at a different angle than anywhere else in the country."
