The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their upcoming training camp with a focus on evaluating their defensive line. The team currently has 14 players in this position group, divided into defensive tackles and defensive ends.

Chris Jones, a key player for the Chiefs, had an impressive season in 2024 with 74 pressures in just 15 games. His performance was pivotal to the team's defense, which ranked second in the NFL in scoring before Week 18. "Jones has been an integral cornerstone of the Chiefs' run to three world championships in six seasons," according to the release.

Mike Pennel returns for his third consecutive season with the Chiefs. Last year, he played all 17 games and achieved a career-high of three sacks. Pro Football Focus graded him as the top defensive tackle against the run last season.

Coziah Izzard, an undrafted free agent from Penn State, is noted for his athleticism and potential contribution to the team. Similarly, Fabien Lovett and Omarr Norman-Lott are expected to bring depth and versatility to the lineup.

On the defensive end side, George Karlaftis led all Kansas City defensive linemen in snaps last season and recorded eight sacks. Mike Danna aims to bounce back after dealing with injuries last year.

Felix Anudike-Uzomah made notable contributions during his first season with Kansas City after being drafted in 2023. Ashton Gillotte also brings promise following his selection as a high draft pick this year.

Malik Herring continues his journey with Kansas City after overcoming injury challenges early in his career. Charles Omenihu re-signed with the team and looks forward to contributing further after recovering from an ACL injury.

Janarius Robinson joins as a new addition this offseason, bringing experience from previous teams like Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders.

As training camp approaches, competition will be fierce among these players vying for spots on both sides of the line. The Chiefs traditionally retain between nine to ten defensive linemen each season; decisions regarding final roster spots will depend on performances during camp sessions over coming weeks ahead of Week 1 kickoff later this year.
