A photograph has the power to capture emotions and preserve moments. Over the coming weeks, the Kansas City Chiefs will showcase 10 of the best photos from their 2024-25 season, with insights from Steve Sanders, Director of Photography.
The series continues with photo No. 8 titled "Travis is a Blur," taken during Week 9 against Tampa Bay. The image features tight end Travis Kelce running out of the tunnel during pre-game introductions. Photographer Kyle Rivas captured this moment using a remote camera setup in the tunnel.
Steve Sanders explained that this was a timelapse shot with new LED lights inside the stadium, aiming to create a blur effect as players ran out. The exposure time was around 20 seconds, resulting in several frames, but this particular one stood out.
When discussing lighting management for such shots, Sanders emphasized letting the camera's capabilities work for you, especially when using long shutter speeds to achieve desired effects like smoke blurs without hard edges.
Sanders also shared his inspiration for choosing a timelapse over a standard frame: "I thought we could do something really cool with the new lighting we were using in the stadium for night games."
