A Mexican national has admitted guilt in a federal court for illegally reentering the United States after being previously deported. Florencio Aburto-Feliciano, aged 46, entered his plea before U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips to one count of unlawfully returning to the United States following removal.
Aburto-Feliciano was apprehended on May 8, 2025, by Greenwood, Missouri police officers due to outstanding traffic violation warrants. Subsequently, on May 10, 2025, immigration officers took him into custody at the Jackson County detention center in Missouri.
The charges against Aburto-Feliciano could result in a sentence of up to two years in federal prison and a fine reaching $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for November 13, 2025, under Chief U.S. District Judge Beth Phillips' jurisdiction.
Until his sentencing hearing occurs, Aburto-Feliciano will remain detained. The prosecution of this case is led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brent Venneman and was investigated by Immigration & Customs Enforcement alongside Homeland Security Investigations.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). The operation also seeks to protect communities from violent crime perpetrators by leveraging resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
