The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their upcoming training camp with a focus on evaluating the tight end position. The team currently has seven tight ends on the roster, led by veteran Travis Kelce.

Travis Kelce, regarded as one of the best pass-catchers in NFL history, continues to build his legacy. He holds the record for consecutive seasons with 80 or more catches and ranks high in postseason receiving stats. Entering his 13th season, Kelce remains a key player for the Chiefs.

Noah Gray is entering his fifth season with Kansas City after achieving career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns last year. Known for his versatility, Gray played a significant role as an in-line blocker and contributed on special teams.

Jared Wiley was drafted by the Chiefs in 2024 but suffered a torn ACL during his rookie season. Head Coach Andy Reid expressed optimism about Wiley's recovery, indicating he might be ready for training camp. Once healthy, Wiley is expected to compete for a spot on the team.

Jake Briningstool joined as an undrafted free agent from Clemson, where he set school records for receptions by a tight end. Despite not being drafted, Briningstool aims to secure a place in the NFL through this opportunity with the Chiefs.

Geor'Quarius Spivey returns to Kansas City after previously participating in training camp and spending time with the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL. Spivey has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game but hopes to change that this year.

Robert Tonyan rejoined the Chiefs after finishing last season on their practice squad. A veteran player who had success with Green Bay Packers earlier in his career, Tonyan looks to earn a permanent spot on the team at age 31.

Tre Watson signed as an undrafted rookie following his transfer from Fresno State to Texas A&M. In his lone season there, Watson caught 21 passes and was primarily used as an in-line tight end.

The Chiefs typically start their season with four tight ends on their roster. Behind Kelce and Gray, Jared Wiley is likely to secure one of those spots if he continues progressing well from injury rehab. This leaves Briningstool, Spivey, Tonyan, and Watson competing for possibly one remaining position or placement on the practice squad.
