Major League Soccer has announced its Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Matchday 22. Sporting Kansas City's goalkeeper John Pulskamp and midfielder Erik Thommy were recognized among the top players following their team's 2-1 victory against Colorado.
Pulskamp, leading MLS with 75 saves this season, secured his third consecutive Team of the Matchday selection. He matched his career high with eight saves and earned his second assist of the year. This achievement makes him the first goalkeeper in club history to have multiple assists in a single season. Interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin praised Pulskamp's performance, stating, "We’ve seen those kinds of actions from (Pulskamp) — big saves in big moments that have not only kept us in games but preserved results for us."
Erik Thommy was also honored for his role in both goals during the win, assisting Dejan Joveljic early on and scoring the decisive goal himself. Coach Zavagnin highlighted Thommy's contribution: "It’s well deserved — not just the goal from the last game but the goal and the assist tonight." Thommy has been instrumental with five goal contributions in five appearances against Colorado.
Sporting Kansas City will next host Seattle Sounders at Children's Mercy Park on Saturday. The event coincides with Retro Night, celebrating 25 years since their double win of the Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup in 2000. Tickets are available through SeatGeek, and fans can watch via Apple TV with an MLS Season Pass subscription.
Pub partners will show the match live, including a watch party at No Other Pub offering specials for fans wearing SKC gear.
