Sporting Kansas City secured a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park, marking their first win against the Rapids at this venue since 2014. The match was closely contested, with goals from Dejan Joveljić and Erik Thommy sealing the win for Sporting.

Sporting fielded a new lineup due to injuries and yellow card suspensions, resulting in different starters compared to their previous match.

The starting lineup included John Pulskamp, Tim Leibold (substituted by Memo Rodríguez in the 57th minute), Joaquín Fernández (replaced by Ian James at halftime), Jansen Miller, Khiry Shelton, Zorhan Bassong, Jacob Bartlett, Manu García, Erik Thommy (substituted by Santiago Muñoz in the 87th minute), Dejan Joveljić (replaced by Mason Toye in the 73rd minute), and Shapi Suleymanov (substituted by Daniel Salloi in the 58th minute). In the second half, Ian James replaced Joaquín Fernández for Sporting. Despite another close attempt from Colorado early on, Pulskamp made a crucial save. In the 53rd minute, Pulskamp initiated a play that led to Erik Thommy scoring what would be the winning goal: "ERIK DOUBLES OUR LEAD," tweeted Sporting Kansas City.

Although Colorado continued to press forward and hit the post multiple times during their attacks in the second half, they managed only one goal late in the game. Darren Yapi's run resulted in a penalty after Ian James' challenge was deemed illegal. Rafael Navarro converted it into Colorado's sole goal of the night.

Sporting held onto their lead until full-time whistle securing their first away win against Colorado since 2014.
