A Kansas City man has been sentenced to 210 months in federal prison for producing child pornography. Talib Bwana Muhammad, aged 27, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge D. Gregory Kays after pleading guilty to the charge on January 3, 2025.

According to court documents, Muhammad produced child pornography involving a 13-year-old victim in June 2023. He met the minor through a social media application and arranged for the child to travel from Texas to Missouri by purchasing an airline ticket. When the victim could not leave home, Muhammad drove from Missouri to Texas to pick them up.

The authorities were alerted when the child was reported missing, prompting an Amber Alert. Investigators tracked down the minor at Muhammad's residence in Missouri.

Muhammad recorded and photographed sexual activities with the minor using his cell phone. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen A. Brackett and investigated by multiple agencies including the FBI and police departments in Hitchcock, Texas, and Kansas City, Missouri.

Upon release from prison, Muhammad will be required to register as a sex offender under both federal and state laws potentially for life.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide.
