Sporting Kansas City's Unified Team experienced a week filled with events and competition as they faced Real Salt Lake's Unified Team in a doubleheader. The activities began with a training session at Compass Minerals Sporting Fields, where the team was joined by Unified Team Ambassador Mason Toye and Sporting KC forward Santiago Muñoz.

On Wednesday, players Angel and German Castillo were honored during halftime of the Sporting KC vs. Charlotte FC game. They will represent Sporting KC at the All-Star Unified Game. Hiland Dairy provided tickets for their family and Special Olympics staff to celebrate this achievement.

The team continued preparations on Thursday before welcoming RSL's squad on Friday with a visit to Kauffman Stadium to watch the Royals play against the LA Dodgers.

Saturday marked game day at Children’s Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village. Coach Phil Gomez encouraged his team to compete hard and enjoy the experience. Josh Toplikar and Alessandro Rubio were named captains for their dedication and positive attitude.

The match saw strong performances from both teams, with RSL scoring early but Sporting KC responding resiliently. Goalkeeper Tyler Robonei made key saves, while defender Shay Keller-Novelli helped limit RSL's chances. Despite RSL edging out a point, both teams celebrated sportsmanship post-match.

After exchanging gifts, both squads reunited at Children’s Mercy Park to be honored during the first team's match between Sporting KC and RSL.

Sporting KC’s Unified Team now looks ahead to an away match in Salt Lake City on September 13.
