The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their upcoming training camp, which will begin in less than a month. As part of this preparation, the team is evaluating its roster, starting with the quarterback position.

Patrick Mahomes remains the standout player for the Chiefs. At 29 years old, he has led the team to more regular-season and playoff victories than any other since 2018. Mahomes has achieved 17 career postseason wins, second only to Tom Brady among NFL quarterbacks. He also holds records for touchdown passes and passing yards through 112 regular-season games.

Behind Mahomes, three quarterbacks are vying for spots on the roster: Gardner Minshew, Chris Oladokun, and Bailey Zappe.

Gardner Minshew is a six-year veteran who has played for several teams including the Jaguars and Raiders. Last season with Las Vegas, he started nine games before a broken collarbone ended his season early. Minshew's experience gives him an edge as Mahomes' backup.

Chris Oladokun returns to Kansas City after spending three seasons on the practice squad. Known for his work as a scout team quarterback, Oladokun made his first regular-season appearance last year. His college career included stints at South Florida, Samford University, and South Dakota State.

Bailey Zappe rejoined the Chiefs in March after being waived by New England and briefly playing for Cleveland last season. Originally drafted by New England in 2022, Zappe had an impressive college career at Western Kentucky where he set FBS single-season records.

As training camp approaches in St. Joseph, competition between Oladokun and Zappe will be crucial for securing a spot on the depth chart behind Minshew.
