Sporting Kansas City achieved a remarkable comeback victory against Charlotte FC with two stoppage-time goals on Wednesday night at Children’s Mercy Park. Mason Toye and Dejan Joveljic scored in the 94th and 96th minutes, respectively, to secure a 2-1 win for Sporting KC. This match marked the first meeting between the two clubs.

Charlotte initially took the lead in the 34th minute when Idan Toklomati scored with a backheel finish. Despite this early advantage, Sporting KC managed to turn the game around in dramatic fashion during stoppage time. Manu Garcia played a crucial role by assisting both goals, delivering precise passes that set up Toye's equalizer and Joveljic's winning goal.

Interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin made strategic changes to Sporting’s lineup following their previous loss to FC Dallas. Daniel Salloi returned to the starting XI, while Jake Davis moved from midfield to right back due to Khiry Shelton's suspension.

Charlotte entered the match having lost seven of their last nine games but started strongly with several attempts on goal. However, they failed to capitalize on these opportunities, allowing Sporting KC to mount their late comeback.

The victory provides momentum for Sporting Kansas City as they prepare for an upcoming match against Real Salt Lake. The game will also feature Matt Besler's induction into the Sporting Legends hall of honor.

Sporting Kansas City's lineup included John Pulskamp as goalkeeper and notable contributions from players like Santiago Munoz and Manu Garcia. Charlotte FC's efforts were led by Kristijan Kahlina in goal and Wilfried Zaha among others.

This result marks a significant achievement for Sporting KC, who had not won an MLS match after trailing at halftime since June 2021. Meanwhile, Charlotte experienced their first defeat when leading at halftime since April 2023.
