Sporting Kansas City will face Charlotte FC for the first time at Children’s Mercy Park on Wednesday night. The match, set to begin at 7:30 p.m. CT, is part of Sporting KC's three-game homestand and will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ and MLS Season Pass, with local radio coverage on Sports Radio 810 WHB. Tickets can be purchased through SeatGeek.com.
After a four-game unbeaten streak from May 14 to May 31, Sporting KC has experienced back-to-back losses against LAFC and FC Dallas. Interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin, who took over after Peter Vermes' departure in March, has led the team to 15 points with a record of 4-5-3 since then.
Wednesday's match against Charlotte marks Sporting's completion of playing against all other teams in MLS since Charlotte joined as an expansion team in 2022. Sporting KC previously played new expansion teams St. Louis and San Diego FC, drawing their inaugural game against San Diego last month.
Midfielder Manu García shared his experience of feeling welcomed in Kansas City: "Es una ciudad con gente muy amable, muy cercana, que intenta que estés bien... e intentan hacerte sentir como en casa."
Forward Dejan Joveljic continues his strong performance despite the team's recent loss to FC Dallas. Joveljic leads Sporting with 12 goal involvements this season and is tied for fourth in the MLS Golden Boot race with ten goals.
Shapi Suleymanov scored his second goal of the season during the same match against Dallas. His left-footed shot was his first goal from open play this year.
Santiago Munoz has also shown potential off the bench, scoring twice in his last three appearances. Munoz is currently on loan from Santos Laguna until the end of the season.
