A Guatemalan man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Springfield, Missouri, for allegedly re-entering the United States illegally after having been deported. Selvin Mejia-Ramos, aged 32, faces charges in a one-count indictment of illegal reentry as a previously removed alien. This replaces an earlier criminal complaint filed on May 29, 2025. The indictment states that Mejia-Ramos had been removed from the U.S. at least once before, specifically on April 15, 2020.

It is important to note that the charges contained in this indictment are accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting these charges must be presented to a federal trial jury responsible for determining guilt or innocence.

The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney and was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Enforcement and Removal Operations along with Homeland Security Investigations.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, which is a nationwide initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation also seeks to protect communities from violent crime perpetrators by leveraging resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
